The author compares the mythological titan the Atlas (Atlant) from the story of English writer J.Winterson «Weight» (2005) with folklore image of the Russian bogatyr through reminiscences to Turgenev's «Mumu». The parallel Hercules (Heracles) - Herasim is revealed. The attention is focused on the image of the dog and its literary nickname (Laika, Trezor, Mumu, Kashtanka), comparison of the dog with a sparrow and an insect is analyzed in J.Winterson and Turgenev's selected works. It is remarkable that Atlant's revival is connected with love to Laika, while Herasim's fossilization is caused by the heartless reference with Mumu.
