Ballet art as a space for cultural dialogue between China and Russia

The research object of this article is the cross cultural interaction between Russia and China in the eld of ballet, analyzing the Russian ballet performances arranged by Chinese choreographers. The ballet performances by the National Ballet of China, Suzhou Ballet, and Liaoning Ballet are not only replicas of the world renowned Russian ballet, but also have ethnic characteristics that are in line with the Chinese cultural background. This article analyzes the changes made by Chinese choreographer directors in ballet performances from four dimensions: plot, dance, music, and stage. This article considers three ballet works: “The Nutcracker”, “Spartacus” and “Romeo and Juliet” performed by leading Chinese ballet groups. The aim of this article is to analyze the peculiarities of adaptation of classical works and images of Russian ballet by Chinese choreographers, which was an important step on the way to the formation of a unique style of Chinese ballet. It seems that these ballet performances can be considered as phenomena of cultural dialog in the space of cross-cultural interaction between Russia and China.
