The study of the use of antonymic pairs in the works of writers, in particular, Chekhov, attracts the attention of many researchers in our country and abroad. Antonymy is one of the important manifestations of paradigmatic relations in language, one of the complex types of semantic connections of words. The phenomenon of antonymy has attracted the attention of philosophers since antiquity. Our article is devoted to one of the little-studied properties of antonymy in the narrative, namely the use of antonyms as a reflection of the development of the plot.
