The article examines the use of folklore in professional art using the example of the work of the Soviet and Russian composer V. A. Gavrilin. The formation of V.A. is explored. Gavrilin as a professional, his creative path and folkloristic activities are examined, including participation in expeditions, notation of folk songs and tunes, collaboration with local historians. The article analyzes the features of V.A.’s creativity. Gavrilin, the principles of interaction between folklore and authorial features of his compositions are determined, the composer’s contribution to the development of modern Russian musical culture is explored. Music by V. A. Gavrilin influences modern musical culture, she is an example of the fact that a combination of previously incompatible musical techniques can be successful and harmonious, and therefore become the basis for future integrations, both in the example of mixing traditional folk songs and popular music (Zventa Svetlana), and mixing folk song and academic singing (State Academic Russian Folk Orchestra named after N. P. Osipov - Kamarinskaya).
