This work is dedicated to the study of innovative teaching methods of mathematics in higher education institutions. The article examines the basic principles and approaches to teaching mathematics, such as problem-based learning, interactive teaching methods, game techniques, the use of information and communication technologies, and conducting interdisciplinary projects. In addition, the structure of mathematical competence and key components of this skill necessary for successful educational activities of future primary school teachers are discussed.
