The Use of Artificial Intelligence and the Role of Digital Competencies in English Language Teaching

This article examines the possibilities of using Artificial Intelligence technologies in teaching English, as well as the importance of digital competencies in the professional activities of a modern teacher. In the context of the rapid development of the information society, the education system needs to introduce innovative methods and modern digital learning tools. This issue is particularly relevant in the process of teaching foreign languages, where the use of artificial intelligence contributes to improving the effectiveness of the educational process, developing students' motivation and developing independent work skills. The study analyzes the issues of developing digital literacy for future English teachers, as well as the possibilities of modern educational platforms and programs based on artificial intelligence technologies. Special attention is paid to such digital tools as ChatGPT, Grammarly, Quizlet and Google Classroom, which are actively used in the educational environment. The article emphasizes that the use of artificial intelligence has a positive effect on the development of language skills of students, contributes to the improvement of grammatical literacy, communication skills and the organization of personalized learning. It is noted that digital competencies are becoming one of the most important components of the professional training of English language teachers. Effective use of AI technologies requires a teacher to have a high level of information culture, knowledge of digital resources, and willingness to apply innovative pedagogical approaches in educational practice.
