The Use of Metaphorical Expressions with the Noun “Thought” in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language

The purpose of the article is to present the possibilities of using metaphorical expressions with the noun “thought” in teaching Russian as a foreign language. The role of metaphor for language and the individual is outlined. The relevance of the research topic is substantiated. The semantics of metaphorical expressions with the noun “thought” is considered, and it is determined which metaphorical images can be used to describe a thought. The most common phrases of speech in the Russian language describing mental processes have been identifi ed. The classifi cation of these expressions is presented, fi ve semantic groups are identifi ed: thought as the subject of action is described from the moment of its appearance in consciousness to departure. Recommendations on working with metaphorical expressions in the practice of teaching Russian as a foreign language are formulated. Examples of exercises that promote their assimilation by students are given. Russian as a foreign language teachers and foreign students who study Russian may find the results of the study useful.
