Using of new method of determination of seed size in creation of large-seeded breeding material of sunflower

«OIL CROPS» Scientific bulletin, VNIIMK, 2006, is 2 (135). The new method of seed size determination is offered in this article. A quantity of achenes per a liter authentically shows the difference between sunflower varieties on seed size. At the first time the applicable scale defines a large seeded sunflower variety and allows to divide varieties into groups on the achenes size. The new breeding material is received. Intervariety hybrids, having large achenes, differ by a broad spectrum of traits of the oil yield per a hectare and can be involved not only in process of development of new confectionery varieties, but also be used for improving of physical properties of new and perspective high oil sunflower varieties.
