Project-based learning in medical school

The article discusses the theoretical and practical aspects of the application of project-based learning in the discipline “Dentistry” for students of the specialty 31.05.01 General Medicine. The author uses the following types of project work. In the process of conducting practical classes and independent work, students carry out a research project that takes into account the polyetiology of periodontal diseases, the comorbidity of dental and periodontal diseases with somatic pathologies. Another project is associated with a prospective analysis of clinical cases on the topic “Traumatology of the maxillofacial area”. A team of students analyzes a clinical case, the project product consists in a reasonable diagnosis and determination of treatment options, taking into account modern scientific approaches. The article highlights the advantages of using project technologies, through which analytical, research, professional and communicative competencies are developed. The analysis of students’ educational achievements indicates an increase in their motivation to study the discipline “Dentistry” and an improvement in the quality of education. It is concluded that project-based learning makes it possible to build medical students’ competencies, which are necessary in modern professional activities.
