Use of training grounds to teach police staff combat techniques

Introduction. In the physical training of police officers, training grounds in the form of a specialized obstacle course are traditionally used to develop the officers’ physical qualities. However, the training grounds can also be employed to simulate various situations of using combat techniques in professional activities. Materials and Methods. The study was organized on the basis of the Tyumen Institute for Advanced Training of Employees of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The study involved students enrolled in professional training programs (initial training). The methods include analysis and synthesis of scientific and methodological pedagogical literature and police officers’ professional experience, modeling, testing, peer review method, mathematical statistics. Results and Discussion. To achieve the aim of the research, the authors prepared typical situations of applying combat techniques, and also determined the conditions for effective use of training grounds. The results of the pedagogical experiment revealed a higher level of proficiency in techniques among the representatives of the experimental group. Conclusions. The results of the research enable the authors to conclude that the use of training grounds to train police officers combat techniques in situations of professional activity is effective.
