Examination of the factors affecting on the distortion of optical systems of digital cameras

The conditions of making digital images of test objects are examined. The study reveals that errors in digital images insignificantly depend on the distance between the optical center of the camera and the object ’s surface. The change in focal length of the camera influences the value of the distortions and their types: "barrel” distortion changes to "pincushion" type. For each camera there is an optimum focal length which provides maximal precision.
