Assessment of mammoglobin a mRNA expression in various breast diseases

Expression of mammoglobin mRNA was assessed with quantitative real-time PCR in 69 tissue samples of breast cancer, in 42 breast fibroadenomas and in 98 tissue samples of normal breasts. It was demonstrated that in malignant tumors the expression of mammoglobin mRNA was higher than in fibroadenomas or in normal breasts. The increase of tumors size, of its metastatic potential and of histological malignant features was accompanied by decrease of mammoglobin's expression. Expression of mammoglobin mRNA may be used as a tissue-specific marker of various breast diseases.
