The Study of the Quality of Competitiveness in Athletes of Different Qualifications and Types of Sports

Introduction. The essence of the problem is that the quality of competiveness, including motivation to achieve success, emotions of struggle, thinking, volitional qualities, intelligence, together determine the implementation of the athlete’s preparation and achievement of the planned results. The purpose is to identify the level of formation and features of competitive quality in athletes of different qualifications and sports. Маterials and Methods. The methodological basis of the study consists of: theory and methodology of sport, concept of competitive activity and psychological support of training athletes for competitions. 185 athletes aged 15–25 — students of sports schools of Omsk; (athlete students of universities), divided into two groups: group 1 — 3rd, 2nd, 1st rank (145 people); group 2 involved Candidates for Master of Sports and Masters of Sports (40 people) — participated in the study. To establish the relationship of the structural components of competitiveness, Yule association coefficient was calculated. To determine the differences in the formation of competitiveness of athletes with high and low sports qualification, the t-Student coefficient was computed. Results and Discussion. It was found out that insufficient level of competitiveness restrains the growth of sports skill of the athlete. The formation of competitive quality is related to certain experience, number of competitions and sports achievements. Conclusions. Increasing the level of formation of competitive quality in athletes and maintaining it at an optimal level of readiness and its maintenance will make it possible to most effectively implement preparation for competitive activities.
