The article reveals the basic parameters of the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War in the contemporary Russian society on a basis of an analysis of results of opinion polls. The methodology of the analysis is a social constructivism. An attention is paid to a historical memory as a resource for an ensuring interethnic harmony in the Southern Russia and the Northern Caucasus. The author determines the status and trends of the historical memory transformations, a construction of a collective memory in the historical policy of the Russian Federation. It is established that the assessments of the events of the war, formed in the liberal, conservative, Marxist and nationalist communities are opposite, and a positive dialogue is almost not conducted. The possibilities for a positive transformation of historical memory are associated with the strengthening of state control over the image of the Great Patriotic War in the media, the activation of the policies of parties and public associations. The positive memory of the Great Patriotic War should become one of the ideological support for the upbringing of Russian patriotism and the strengthening of the unity of the Russian nation.
