The article proposes a cultural and historical periodization of musical fashion, including five key stages that consistently reflect the evolution of the ways of production, distribution and perception of musical styles. Among them: traditional-folk (until the end of the XVIII in.), professional-academic (from the end of the XVIII to the beginning of the XIX century), mass-industrial (beginning and middle of the XX in.), subcultural (second half of the 20th century and beginning of the XX in.), digital (postmodern) (from the end of the XX to the present time). The key forms of musical manifestations in different eras are considered, and the factors of changes in current musical trends are analyzed. The work also highlights the regularities of transformation processes that are caused by technological, social and value changes. The author considers musical fashion as a dynamic socio-cultural phenomenon that reflects changes in public taste attitudes, as well as media infrastructure.
