The article discusses what considerations of scientists led to the idea of extending the Principle of invariance of inertial systems to all movements occurring in Nature, and the idea of the relativity of motion; what physical paradoxes follow from the formulas that had to be introduced into the theory to justify the relativity of motion for electromagnetic phenomena.
