The process of formation of minerals in the Permian geological period, its boundaries in the territory of the Northern Kama region is considered. The contribution of geologists is analyzed, whose research helped in 1925 Professor P. I. Preobrazhensky to open the world’s largest (after Canada) deposit of potash and potassium-magnesium salts. Fragments of the biography of the outstanding Russian scientist Pavel Ivanovich Preobrazhensky, whose discovery contributed to the rapid industrial and socio-cultural development of the Western Urals, are presented. The industrial potential of enterprises producing products due to the development of one of the world’s largest deposits of potassium-magnesium salts in the Perm Kama region is shown.
