The paper describes the most important stages of all well-known translations of Dostoevsky's novel Crime and Punishment (1866) in German language published from 1882 to 1994, which played a special role in Dostoevsky's Cultural Reception in Germany and in Europe. The article analyzes the reasons for the multiplicity of translation interpretations of the novel Crime and Punishment in German. The role of translators, publishing houses and Complete Works of Dostoevsky are considered in detail. The second article of the series presents a complete review of the currently known translations of the novel by F.M. Dostoevsky Crime and Punishment into German, made from the 1910s to the present. For the first time, a comprehensive analysis of the role of projects of publishing Complete Works of Dostoevsky by Inzel and Aufbau is presented. The translations are chronologically tabulated. All research material allowed to explain the reasons for the appearance of new translations of the novel in Germany (G. Roel, A.S. Eliasberg, R. Hoffmann, M. und R. Breuer, S. Geier). The translations of the novel Crime and Punishment prepared by G. Roel (1912), A.S. Eliasberg (1921), R. Hoffmann (1960) and S. Geier (1993) became facts of German culture.
