The article analyses E.P. Thompson's Neomarxist concept concerning the origin of the British working class and its culture - «the most outstanding popular culture of England». In the course of self-creation the English working class «with his own hand» created his own environment which showed a new «popular culture» to the world. Thus, Thompson sends a challenge to the "old" Marxism considering history of capitalism as predetermined inevitable changes of ways of manufacture and social formations.
