The article considers different versions on sources of Buryat epic origin, date and location. It provides various facts of similarity and differences of Buryat, Mongolian and Tibetian versions of epos. The idea of close connection between tengrist mythology and epos is underlined in the article. Special attention is given to parallels between ethnogenesis and ethnic history of Buryat-Mongols' ancestors and epic toponymy.
