The relevance of the topic is due to the modernization of the military education system in the context of digitalization and the rapid growth of the role of information processes in military affairs. The formation of a high information and management culture among future officers is one of the key factors in effective command and control of troops. Despite the significance of this problem, the historiography of the issue has not previously been subjected to a comprehensive analysis, which determines the scientific novelty of this study. The purpose of the work is to identify and characterize the main stages and trends in the development of ideas about information and management culture in military education. The study used historiographic and comparative-historical methods, which provided a systemic analysis of scientific literature and regulatory documents on military pedagogy. The source base consisted of the works of domestic and foreign researchers, educational and methodological materials of military universities, as well as historical reviews reflecting the evolution of management approaches in the 20th - early 21st centuries. The main results of the study consist in determining the “traditional” and “modern” stages in the development of the problem under consideration. It was revealed that in the traditions of military pedagogy, information and management culture was understood primarily as a set of skills and values of command and staff work in the context of a strict hierarchy of control of the armed forces. A conclusion is made about the importance of continuity of the best traditions and the need to integrate them with innovative approaches, which will improve the efficiency of training officers to perform tasks in the modern information space. The obtained results can be used when updating educational programs of military universities, taking into account the balance of traditional and modern requirements.
