The article focuses on the historiographical analysis of scholarly works by famous American and Russian scientists in the field of qualification improvement among teaching staff employed at higher education US institutions during the second half of XX th through beginning of the XXI st centuries. General and specific features inherent to historical-pedagogical study of the above issue are characterized.
