The article is devoted to the acute problem of reconsidering the role of the University teacher, his functions and main tasks in the modern social-educational process. Basing on the historical and comparative approaches the author analyses national and international tendencies (Great Britain, India, the U.S.A.) of perception of the modern University teacher’s functions in education with the existing differences explained through social, cultural and educational reasons.
