Electrophysiological characteristics of the brain functional state in mental disorders of the Chernobyl liquidators

150 liquidators who had worked in Chernobyl accident area were examined. All of them had mental diseases. Both a-rhythms disorganisation and increase of p1-activity were usually observed in brain cortex sensomotor areas of 43 patients as compared with 17 healthy individuals. Meanwhile a-activity was significantly decreased especially in the left hemispheres of patients with psychoorganic syndrome. The majority of patients were characterized by both enhanced reaction to light flashes rhythm assimilation and the decrease of nonspecific and skin-galvanic reactions to the light stimulus. Conclusion is made about systemic CNS damage in such patients that was more pronounced In psychoorganic syndrome. All studies were made according to World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki and «Regulation of Clinical Practice in Russian Federation».
