Learning a foreign language in the age of globalization

The article is devoted to the influence of globalisation processes on the choice of a language to be learnt. Now, when Russia takes an active part in Bologna process, the European multilingualism is objectively and subjectively a necessary factor in an efficient cooperation in various areas of society life. The article is concerned with current trends in foreign languages study, highlights the historical roots of this problem and tries to find a way out of the situation.
