Language mechanisms of expressiveness: analysis of the basic concepts

The paper defines the terms expression, expressive, connotation. Three groups of emotional and evaluative words are considered. As a result of the actualization of the expressive means of language, the combination and the interaction of which allows practically any unit of the language to act as a carrier of expressiveness, speech acquires expression, i.e., the ability to express the speaker's mental state. Also it is described functional style and expressive stylistic characteristics of the words.
