Electronic library systems in the modern educational environment of a cultural university: results of a comparative analysis

The results of the study “The potential of electronic library systems for a university of culture” are presented. The objects of the study are the electronic library systems “Urayt”, “Lan”, “Rukont”, “Universitetskaya biblioteka online”, “IPR Smart”. The aim of the research is to identify the advantages and limitations of electronic library systems used in the educational process of the Moscow State Institute of Culture, considering the directions and profiles of cultural personnel training. During the interdisciplinary research, the availability of specialized educational publications in 691 academic disciplines was analyzed. 192 teachers from the Moscow State Institute of Culture took part in the expert assessment of Electronic Library Systems. The basis for interdisciplinary research is a unified methodology for collecting and processing data. For each faculty and each department of the Moscow State Institute of Culture the most productive Electronic Library systems providing the largest number of relevant publications have been identified. A list of 58 academic disciplines taught at the Moscow State Institute of Culture has been determined, for which educational literature is not presented in any of the five Electronic Library Systems. The results of the research can be used to improve the planning system and improve the quality of educational and methodological activities of teachers of the Moscow State Institute of Culture, as well as to improve the organization of research work and conduct interdepartmental and university wide interdisciplinary research.
