Efficacy of Nd-YAG-laser in patients with vascular anomalies

Vascular tumors are the most frequent tumors in children. This fact clearly shows the high relevance of this problem, particularly in the search for new, less invasive, but effective treatment. The paper presents the results of the treatment of 38 children with hemangiomas and vascular malformations of the skin with Nd-YAG-laser (wavelength - 1064 nm.). It was estimated that efficacy of the treatment depends on the extent of the tumor protruding above the surface of the skin. In all cases, the treatment of patients with vascular malformations and hemangiomas with an elevation above the surrounding skin up to 0.1 cm, Nd-YAG-laser was ineffective. In contrast, for hemangiomas, towering above the surrounding skin by 0.2 cm or more, Nd-YAG-laser caused a pronounced decrease in the index of erythema.
