Ecological aspects of utopianism: cartographic images and touristic experiments

Бесплатный доступ

Development of ecoutopian views requires analysis of the principal link between ecological ideas forming one of the imperatives of social development and utopian considerations. The present work considers two particular, but important aspects of this link, namely ecological peculiarities of a classical utopian model (Utopia island) and ecotourism as utopian experiment. The island’s description in the book by T. More and analysis of several cartographical images of Utopia published since 1516 reveal insufficient attention to ecological peculiarities and their controversial state. The degree of ecologization is low for some images. Consideration of ecotourism allows characterizing its utopian essence as well as drawing attention to controversies of this experiment, which is hard to bring harmony between society and nature. The conclusions indicate on uncertainties and sometimes questionable state of the link of ecological ideas and utopian views, and they also imply the urgency of further investigations of this problematic.
