The article examines the ecological traditions that are established during the social and cultural development of the ethnic group and include the experience, techniques and skills of nature management and worldview as well as the concept of the environment. They are a prerequisite for maintaining a stable state of the ethnic ecosystem in the interaction of people with the natural environment. In this regard, the research objective is to study the ecological tradition as a component of the historical, social and cultural relations between population and the natural environment. The study shows that ecological traditions as a kind of spiritual and ecological component and a vector of values in the interaction of society and the natural environment are the basis for building the ecological culture. The paper notes that the preservation of values of cultural, historical, social and ecological heritage and the assimilation of ecological traditions are of axiological importance in the social and natural development. According to this fact, the consideration of ecological traditions and the identification of their valuable components acquire special significance. The author proves that the development of the ecological culture based on values and immanent content of ecological traditions is relevant in the modern context.
