By the second quarter of the 21st century, the problem of protecting individuals from the effects of pollution has become relevant not only in their physical environment (natural and man-made), but also in social and informational reality. The article explores human ecology as a scientific field in relation to social ecology. The aim of the article is to study the interaction of individuals with the social and informational environment, as well as to identify the negative factors “pollutions” - corresponding with these environments. The concepts of “space” and “environment” are differentiated in relation to the individual's social and informational environment. Depending on the scope of society's coverage, three types of social pollution are distinguished: 1) local - in separate institutions; 2) large-scale - spheres of labor employment; 3) global - destructive social technologies introduced from outside. The informational environment is an integral part of the social environment. The concept of “information pollution” is examined in two aspects: a) narrow - parametric; b) broad - semantic and pragmatic. Information pollution can not only be a by-product of information technology, but also created consciously for the purpose of manipulative influence on the personality.
