The article solves the problem of improving the quality of footwear products at the stage of selecting leather samples. The work examines materials for shoe uppers in order to identify strength characteristics for various samples identified during physical and mechanical tests. The study allows us to develop a methodology for testing materials, conduct a statistical assessment and determine the quality indicators of leather. The approachis based on the method of statistical analysis of quality indicators of shoe materials. Experimental data from two versions of leather from a Russian manufacturer are analyzed. Null hypotheses were tested regarding the equality of variances and average values of the quality indicators “strength” and “relative elongation” for various variants of leather samples. Longitudinal and transverse samples of two types of leather materials were studied: chrome-tanned leather for shoe uppers with a wax finish. Analysis of experimental data made it possible to determine the feasibility of using the leather materials under study in various climatic conditions of shoe use.
