Elements of media education in the European system of the extremism and terrorism prevention

The law enforcement agencies of the European Union appear today in a defensive position in the counter-terrorist activity in cause of a number of reasons (including their own mistakes) that seriously complicates communications of the authorities. Even if there are internal contradictions in official versions of the terrorist attacks or in the biography of the terrorist organization’s leader the communication component of terrorism continues to “work”. It makes the law enforcement agencies to improve concrete measures in counteraction to the terrorist network’s communication strategy. These measures often need the systematization in correspondence with the communication strategy. Informing of the public on terrorist activity, on its real motives and manipulations with the information in interests of terrorists can raise criticality of perception of terrorist propagation in a society. Power structures should pay to it, in our opinion, steadfast attention. The possible way of overcoming of the panic provoked by terrorists in a society is the wide publication of materials about terrorist groups’ strategies. It helps to overcome the passive apolitical perception of a problem of terrorism and to prepare internal and external target audiences for possible terrorist attacks and their communication effect.
