Endogamy and exogamy among the Turkmen: historical roots, regional features and modern transformations

The article is devoted to the analysis of family and marital relations among the Turkmen, exploring the influence of historical, cultural and religious factors on forms of marriage, such as exogamy and endogamy. The author examines the historical development of these forms of marriage, their regional features and transformations in the context of Turkmen society. The article shows how traditional marital norms changed under the influence of Islam, local adats and social transformations of the 20th century. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the integrated approach based on ethnographic materials, archival data and field research. Modern trends that preserve traditional marriage practices in the context of globalization are discussed.
