The study discusses the evaluation of the role of science in modern society in an anti-scientistic context. The anti-scientistic approaches focus on the reflection of the negative consequences of high-tech technology being introduced that qualitatively transform all spheres of social life. These approaches are updated due to the desire of the scientific community to find out the penetration rate of scientific knowledge in social processes and identify ways to humanize it. The key message of the research is the statement that contradictory epistemological consequences are objectively revealed in the development of science. On the one hand, the scope of knowledge is growing, and, consequently, the human power increases over natural and social forces. On the other hand, it is evident that human beings are unable to both realize the essential foundations of being and use their knowledge for the benefit of mankind. The author considers anti-scientism as a conceptual solution to the problem of objective evaluation of the role of science in the knowledge society formed in philosophy in response to the scientistic attempts to turn science into a single driver of social development. Moderate and radical options of anti-scientism are described. The analysis of discourses of modern anti-scientism demonstrates that the social consequences of the introduction of scientific discoveries and high technology require the social and humanitarian expertise.
