The article examines the fundamental works of E. N. Trubetskoy (1863-1920), one of the outstanding representatives of the Russian religious and philosophical renaissance. His last works were created under the impression of the tragic events of the war and revolution. Therefore, they are imbued with the spirit of Christian existential eschatology. Many thoughts, feelings and insights of a philosopher can be extremely useful in the most difficult conditions of our time. The author of the article focuses on the most pressing philosophical topics and problems in such works by Trubetskoy as “The Meaning of Life”, “Speculation in Paints”, “Another Kingdom and Its Seekers in a Russian Fairy Tale”, “Memories”. They raise questions about the search for truth, about the Christian attitude to catastrophic eras, the state and culture. The article shows that E. N. Trubetskoy expanded the field of religious and philosophical discourse, including the speculation of Orthodox icon painting and the Christian symbolism of a folk tale. The author of the article substantiates the independence of the philosopher's views by the firmness of his Orthodox position in the complex spiritual atmosphere of the Silver Age. Of particular value is his revelation about the Church as a living God-human organism, from the conciliar unity of which the “gathering in love” of all creation should begin.
