The material of modern Western and Russian studies deals with the ethical implications of rapid development and introduction of information technologies into the educational sphere. The main aspects of digitalization and related risks are critically analyzed, despite their fruitfulness. Social and legal risks arising from the introduction of digital technologies are examined, as well as psychological difficulties and problems that may arise in various aspects of the educational process as a result of the introduction of certain programs and technologies. In addition, the excessive digitalization of the university educational environment, leading to a decline in the “spirit” of the university, is criticized, and steps are proposed for a safe and least risky way of introducing digitalization in education - using both state and civil methods of regulation of the introduction of such technological innovations in the educational process at various stages.
