The article analyses the experience of implementing basic educational programs of secondary vocational education and vocational training and the production of folk art crafts at the federal state institution «Correctional Colony N 1» of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Republic of Tyva. The acquisition of necessary skills by those sentenced to imprisonment and the discrete production of consumer goods based on the cultural values of the Tuvan ethnic group in this southern region of the Siberian Federal District are considered to be effective means of correcting convicts and preparing them for release from prison in the national republic. The conclusion is argued that, due to regional specifics, the educational role should be played by introducing this contingent to national traditions and customs, crafts and trades – cultural values that deserve close attention in the complex of penitentiary probation measures in the daily activities of correctional institutions.
