Euphemisms of the thematic group “economic security”

The article is devoted to the study of euphemistic nominations of the thematic group “Economic Security”. The object of the study is the professional communication of economists, the subject is lexical euphemisms. The material is a selection of relevant vocabulary from terminological dictionaries of the Russian and English languages, from scientific articles and monographs on economics, from professional Internet forums, from journalist articles of Russian- and English-language periodicals. The units are considered from the point of view of the derivation means, status in the professional language and functions in the text. It is found that, in the Russian language, the majority of euphemistic nominations are professionalism, while, in English, terms prevail. The key means of forming euphemisms in both languages is the abstraction of semantics; in Russian, change of meaning due to linguistic analogy is also frequent. In addition, the meaning shift and the substitution for a token with a close meaning are noted.
