Humor and ways of translation (based on the novel by Qian Zhongshu "Fortress besieged")

Based on the novel by Qian Zhongshu «Fortress Besieged» and its translation by V. F. Sorokin, the article analyzes humor and methods of translating humor from Chinese into Russian in a literary text. Comparison of the original text and the translation allows us to consider ways of translating humor using specific examples. The author shows the complexity of conveying the humorous component in translation, highlights methods of translation such as literal translation, abbreviated translation and the use of notes.
