Three poems by Y. Verkhovsky were published in the “Russkaya Molva” daily newspaper (1912-1913) in 1913. The newly discovered material allows us to make our idea of the writer and the newspaper more complete. Verkhovsky’s collaboration with the “Russkaya Molva” has not yet been covered in any way, while the newspaper itself as an independent phenomenon remains little known to researchers. The article republishes and analyzes Verkhovsky’s poems, clarifies his position as a poet and philologist in the Russian symbolism, and interprets his poetic similarities with N. Nedobrovo, who himself wrote reviews of Vyacheslav Ivanov’s and D. Skaldin’s books for the “Russkaya Molva”. One can notice the newspaper was distinctly modernist (late symbolist)-oriented, continuing on its pages the debate about symbolism started in 1910. The newspaper plays the role of an active participant of the literary process, publishes materials on acmeism and futurism, and informs its readers about literature, art criticism and literary criticism of European countries. It can be said that A. Blok’s article “Art and a Newspaper” summarized the policy for the “Russkaya Molva”, which managed to achieve a high-level professionalism of its literary and theatrical columns due to cooperation with many prominent poets and philologists. Verkhovsky’s poems published in the newspaper confirm our idea of him as a neoclassicist in symbolism, his moderately innovative approach, and allow us to talk about the value of the “Russkaya Molva” newspaper as an independent historical and literary phenomenon that is yet to be studied in detail.
