K. N. Leontiev in the “The Russian Messenger” and “Moscow News” edited by M. N. Katkov

In the second half of the 1860s — early 1880s K. N. Leontiev was a regular author (but, and this is fundamentally for him, not a “collaborator”) of the The Russian Messenger and he was also published in Moscow News, meanwhile in the scientific literature devoted to these publications and the editorial policy of M. N. Katkov, the name of this “Russian Byzantine” was overlooked. On the other hand, in the Leontiev studies, the life and creative relationships of two conservative publicists are considered without reference to biographical specifics, without which the background of their ideological differences remains unclear. Our article presents the history of Leontyev’s collaboration in The Russian Messenger and Moscow News, including episodes related to the rejection of his works, which later found other editions to be published.
