On translation lexicography perspective: reflection of differential features in bilingual dictionaries

Research in contemporary semantics focuses on defining the meanings in synonymic series. Methodically-wise, such works combine hypothetico-deductive method and component analysis proposed by O.N. Selivyorstova. The goal of the investigations is to find out differential features and describe them in explanatory dictionaries. Still translation dictionaries can benefit from the identified features as well. Moreover, visual reflection of the researched semantic features can be beneficial in translation. The contribution provides an example of such an entry including schemes, tables, etc. The semantic feature of location is introduced and described with the help of English verbs to locate, to place and to put. A translation experiment was carried out to prove the efficiency of visual reflection.
