Problem of adaptation of foreign text for scene

Бесплатный доступ

The article analyzes the experience of the recent production of N. Ptushkina's play "Leaning Tower of Pisa" at the Chinese National Dramatic Theater (NTCC) as an example of the successful adaptation of foreign dramatic material. Taking into account the differences in the national mentality, the authors of the translation and production connect artistic, linguistic, psychological and stage "codes" in order to convey the meaningful nuances of the text of the Russian playwright to the perceiving audience. The story played out in Ptushkina's play correlates with the post-Soviet period of Russian reality, but on the Chinese stage it is presented without definite concrete historical ties and as universal in meaning, albeit with a "foreign accent" expressed in the very specifics of the plot, the style of the hero's relationship, original scenography, flexible direction and witty acting.
