Stalin''s bunker is located in Shostakovich Street in Samara / Kuibyshev. This is the most popular tourist object on the Volga. The great composer Shostakovich lived for over a year in the «reserve capital» (from October 1941 to March 1943). The article compares different dimensions of Kuibyshev period. The seventh («Leningrad») Symphony performed for the first time in Kuibyshev significantly improved the image of the USSR. It is lesser known that the outstanding «PR project» received strong support from the Stalinist apparatus. Consideration is also given to a small cycle by Shostakovich created after the legendary premiere of the Seventh Symphony «Six romances on verses by English poets for bass and orchestra». Each song of the cycle was strictly encrypted and devoted to closest friends. It was sort of «encryption for future generations». According to the author, contemporary interpretations of Shostakovich’s creativity should be more involved in the regional cultural resources.
