On the use of internet memes in teaching foreign languages (based on the material of the English language)

Internet memes, which have become an important part of everyday communication, can be viewed as a type of creolized texts as their semantics is based on interconnected verbal and nonverbal aspects. The paper studies the feasibility of using internet memes in teaching foreign languages and looks into several characteristics of internet memes that create their longuodidactic potential. The author suggests ways of using internet-memes in a language classroom for managing the attention of the audience and increasing students’ motivation.
