On the question of the independence of victimology as a science

The article examines the main approaches to understanding the essence of victimology as an integral part of criminological studies and as an independent science. Using the method of retrospective analysis, the article studies the history of the development of the victimology doctrine abroad in the first half of the 19th century and in Russia. The article presents the current views of legal scholars on the place of victimology in the system of scientific legal views and draws the author's conclusions.
