The article draws attention to some features of the work of V. I. Nesmelov “The Science of Man”, which provide grounds for comparing the ideas of the Kazan theologian with the concepts of V. S. Solovyov. First of all, what stands out is the common desire of both Thinkers for a rational “justification” of the most important Christian dogmas. It is noted that in his interpretation of the “dualism” of man, Nesmelov came very close to recognizing the “divinity” of man and asserted the possibility of complete and perfect knowledge of God by man. In this context, special significance is given to Nesmelov’s doctrine that the Incarnation of God has a saving significance not only for humanity, but for the whole world, including fallen spirits. In this regard, attention is drawn to Nesmelov’s acceptance of the concept of apocatastasis and his use of the term “all-one being”. There is some uncertainty in Nesmelov’s interpretation of the concept of general human nature. This is connected, according to the author, with the consideration of this concept in two aspects — as the “nature of personality” and as the “nature of the physical organism”. As conclusions, options for a possible explanation of the reasons for the noted similarity in the directions of thought of V. I. Nesmelov and V. S. Solovyov are proposed.
