The issue of teaching specifics of a foreign language for tour guides

The article examines the peculiarities of teaching a foreign language for tour guides. The relevance of the study lies in the unstoppable dispute regarding the effective language training of guides. The main problem that tourists often face is the high level of education of guides in the field of general history, local history, but weak language training. The purpose of the article is to determine the specifics of teaching a foreign language for guides. The author sets a number of tasks: the study of questions regarding the effectiveness of English for specific purposes in higher education, the study of the differences between English for Specific Purposes and English for Occupational Purposes; the analysis of the concept of language training in the field of tourism; the specifics definition of teaching a foreign language for guides, as for a separate professional direction in the field of tourism; the analysis of methods, used for the training of tour guides. In the course of the study, the author concludes that teaching English for specific purposes is effective in higher education, as it helps to learn «the very language» that will be needed in the nearest practice. A common academic language can be applied to the learning process to solve everyday and non-standard situations with the client. Speaking about the fact that modern language learning is the study of language models on the basis of which a future specialist will communicate, an effective method for practicing language is the method of problem-based learning. The article will be interesting for teachers of foreign languages for students in the areas of tourism and hospitality and, of course, for teachers of future tour guides.
