The article analyzes the concept of "source of law" in relation to the Anglo-Saxon (Old English) era, clarifies the chronological framework of the concept of "source of Old English law". Based on the study of theoretical approaches, as well as the real state of historical knowledge about England of the early Middle Ages, the author comes to the conclusion that this concept should be used in three meanings: material (the will of the power subjects of legal relations), formal (external expression of this will), source (written historical sources, where the information about legal norms is reflected). The author defines the chronological limits of creation of sources of Old Russian law in the formal sense of the word from VII to the beginning of XI century, and also, proceeding from them, gives a typology of sources of Old English law in all three meanings.
